Pantone’s 2014 Color Of The Year – Radiant Orchid

I look forward to this time every year, when we find out what Pantone’s color for the next year will be.  They just came out with 2014′s color of the year – radiant orchid.

I have to say that I was rooting for a blue color this year, and I also have to say that this color is not one of my favorites.

During the last 13 years of having my business, I can only remember working with this color a couple of times.

I helped a client pick paint colors for her living and dining room walls a few years ago, and this was the color we came up with.  Even though it wouldn’t be my first choice for my own home, it really works pretty well in her rooms.  I had to be very careful when I picked out the fabric for the window treatments, and I like the tone on tone cream fabric we chose.  My client was happy, and that’s what is most important!

Radiant orchid can work well for a girl’s room.  I made this roman shade for a client’s daughter’s room.  The walls were already painted when my client asked me to make the window treatments.  The polka dot fabric we chose worked well with this deeper shade of the Radiant Orchid.

I think this color works best in small doses – a pillow or other accessory.  Just my opinion, of course.

So, what do you think of Pantone’s color for 2014.  Love it or hate it?

I always enjoy seeing your window treatments and reading your blog. I would NEVER paint anything that color, and I try to be careful about the use of the word never, because it can backfire on you! I also would not wear anything that color, and don’t think it would flatter many people.

    • Thanks Christi! Yes, using the word never can backfire on you! It will be interesting to see if this color takes off. From what I’ve been reading, most people either really like it or really dislike it.

  2. We are ahead of our time in the McManus household! That is the color of Kaitlin’s room!

Jann–I agree that is not my 1st choice for a color, but my daughter, Denise would LOVE it. She has had many a bedroom that color!! In fact, I still have one room still to repaint. Maybe this winter!
